About
About Maren Brascom
Maren Brascom is the pseudonym of a geologist and longtime science educator whose work has centered on helping students understand how the Earth records its own history. After decades spent teaching geology, interpreting landscapes, and thinking about deep time, they turned to fiction as a way to explore questions that scientific writing alone cannot answer.
The Rusk Disconnect grew from a simple idea: what if the planet communicated through patterns that geology could recognize but not fully explain? Rather than offering answers, the novel follows scientists, students, and ordinary people confronting observations that resist familiar explanations.
The choice to publish under a pseudonym reflects a desire to let the work stand apart from an academic career and to preserve a clear distinction between professional scholarship and fiction. Maren Brascom writes stories grounded in science, curiosity, and the belief that the Earth has always been telling its own story—we are only beginning to notice how much remains to be read.
